Free Patriotic Movement leader Gebran Bassil said on Thursday that the Kuwaiti paper “is a Gulf initiative that mentions points Lebanese people agree on,” adding that “some points require time to achieve and some are still a source of conflict between the Lebanese people.”
“We have to hold a dialogue to discuss this paper,” he said during an interview with Russia’s RT TV station.
Bassil voiced hoped that “President Michel Aoun will send invitations to hold such a dialogue.”
“We want to repair Lebanon’s relations with the Gulf countries but we don’t want to leave behind an internal problem,” he added.
When asked about the relationship with Hezbollah, Bassil stated that “a dialogue should be held between Lebanon, the people responsible for the Kuwaiti initiative and the Arab League around a number of articles.”
As for former Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s decision of suspending his political work, Bassil considered that “both external and internal circumstances played a role in Hariri’s decision,” adding that “Hariri was asked to do a civil war and his rejection to such a demand pushed for this decision.”
Bassil also discussed the 2022 Budget, highlighting that “it is part of the recovery plan that might achieved the required reforms.”
He also added that the current Budget does not reflect reality, stressing that the cabinet and parliament “should amend it to make it more realistic.”
On another note, Bassil stressed that the upcoming parliamentary elections must not be postponed.
He concluded by stressing that everyone will be affected by the results of the elections, noting however that “such an effect won’t be considered a significant change.”
