UNIFIL launches investigation into South Lebanon’s latest developments
The United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL) detected during the night of 24 to 25 April a rocket being launched from south Lebanon toward Israel.

Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Aroldo Lázaro made immediate contact with the authorities on both sides of the Blue Line to urge moderation. Despite this, the Israel Defense Forces fired dozens of shells into Lebanon.

Major General Lázaro urged “all parties to prevent further escalation,” expressing his concerns about the disproportionate response.

After the shelling stopped, UNIFIL launched an investigation to find out what had happened.

Peacekeepers are also working with the Lebanese Armed Forces to improve security across UNIFIL’s area of operations and limit the risk of new provocative acts.
