Rai: Not facilitating government formation with full constitutional powers is a sabotage act
Maronite Patriarch Beshara Boutros Rai stressed during his Sunday sermon that the first issue is the constant indifference regarding the government formation, adding that the failure to facilitate the formation of a new government with full constitutional powers is an act of sabotage.

He went on to say that leaving the country without a government at the end of the presidential term and on the eve of the presidential elections will inevitably lead to weakening the representation of the Lebanese legitimacy in the negotiation with the international community.

“We insist on the necessity of respecting the constitutional time of the election, as well as electing a president who has political expertise and is respected, brave and impartial,” Rai stated, adding “a statesman who is neutral in his integrity and committed to his patriotism.”

He then talked about the second issue which is following up on the negotiations to demarcate the maritime borders between Lebanon and Israel, so that Lebanon will be able to extract oil and gas resources.

“The third problem is electricity,” he pointed out, explaining that it requires political consensus and support from all parties.

He concluded by saying that the Lebanese people coming from abroad in large numbers to spend the summer in Lebanon is a source of hope, despite the delicate situation in which the country is going through, indicating that this shows the people's attachment to their homeland in both good and bad conditions.
