FPM likely to ditch white ballots following disagreement with Hezbollah

If what the Free Patriotic Movement's leader Gebran Bassil claimed about free existence being more precious than any understanding and more necessary than any agreement is confirmed, will he and the FPM behave differently towards their main ally Hezbollah?

Such actions may be seen during Thursday's ninth presidential election session.

Thus, well-informed sources indicated that counting on the 'post-storm calm' to revive communication between Haret Hreik and Mirna Chalouhi would not free Hezbollah of responsibility for what occurred this time, securing cabinet’s quorum.

Sources also mentioned that "putting the country in front of an equation of two, either the election of a specific president or chaos, or a challenging president or no president, is not right."

Sources added that instead, it strengthens the FPM's logic, which focuses about consensus on a candidate capable of ruling and bringing everyone together.

The source also emphasized the need to discuss Bassil's proposal, which may be adopted by FPM MPs, thus casting votes during the president's election session on Thursday rather than a blank ballot.

This is the sole formula to get out of the presidential crisis, and it establishes the beginning of the state's recovery process with a president who seeks to pass reforms.
