Spain and Lebanon urge immediate ceasefire, implementation of UN Resolution 1701

Spain and Lebanon have jointly called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire that would enable the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

This resolution emphasizes restoring the state's sovereignty over its entire territory and ensuring the return of displaced persons on both sides of the Blue Line to their homes.

In a joint statement following a meeting of the two countries' foreign ministers, both nations condemned the attacks against the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon and the Lebanese Army.

The statement also denounced assaults on medical teams, health facilities, journalists, and civilians.

Spain and Lebanon demanded full respect for international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, emphasizing their commitment to work together for stability in southern Lebanon and to build lasting peace in the region.

Furthermore, the Spanish government reaffirmed its readiness to continue alleviating the severe humanitarian crisis in Lebanon. Spain has already provided approximately 5.5 million euros in humanitarian aid in 2024, including more than 12 tons of medicine and blankets for vulnerable populations.
