REPORT: EDL workers reopen roads across company, Minister Azzi says their demands are righteous

Contract workers at the Electricite Du Liban reopened on Tuesday the road across the Dabbas company, adjacent to the headquarters of EDL in Corniche El-Naher after Labor Minister Sejaan Azzi assured them that their demands are righteous.

In the same regard, Minister Azzi stated that officials should hold serious rounds of negotiations in order ensure the rights of EDL contract workers.

Earlier, contract workers blocked the road adjacent to the company with burning tires and vowed to take escalatory measures.

Protestors noted that their movement is to protest the company’s failure to pay their salaries.

During the protest, contract workers shouted out calls in support of House Speaker Nabih Berri, stressing that he "is defending their righteous cause."

EDL contract workers have been protesting for months calling on the government to employ them as full-time staff and to pay their salaries.

Their protests have included shutting the gates of EDL headquarters in Beirut and disrupting normal work at the state-run company.
