In a study conducted by Information International in light of passing the pay scale during Wednesday’s legislative session, the number of workers in Lebanon reached 1.3 million.
300 thousand workers in the public sector will benefit from the pay scale, while one million distributed among the private sector and liberal professions are set to bear the burden of funding the scale.
The study distributes the one million workers as follow:
12% in agriculture, 13% in industry, 27% in commerce, 8% in restaurants and hotels, 11% in construction and renovations, 6% in transportation sector, 12% in liberal professions, 4% in insurance companies, banks and financial institutions, 7% in health and education.
With the exception of the banks’ directors and a portion of the engineers, it has been revealed that the majority of the salaries are surprisingly low and do not exceed USD 2000.
