REPORT: Army holds press conference on 2nd day of offensive against ISIS
The Lebanese army held on Sunday a press conference at the Ministry of Defense to brief the media about the second day of its offensive against ISIS militants in the border towns of Ras Baalbek and al-Qaa.
 
Speaking on behalf of the Army Command, Colonel Fadi Abou Eid said that 30 additional kilometers were freed today.
 
“Thus the total area that the army now controls is 80 kilometers out of 120,” he added.
 
Abou Eid also noted that 12 ISIS positions were destroyed, which include grottos and tunnels, while large quantities of weapons and ammunition were seized.
 
“One booby-trapped car and one booby-trapped motorcycle were dismantled,” he added.
 
He also stressed that the army units are making additional advances backed by artillery and shelling, while engineering units and demining the roads.
 
“Additional reinforcement were brought in in order to end the battle as quickly as possible,” the colonel noted.
 
He also declared that three army soldiers were killed, and another one was critically injured.
 
He concluded by denying any coordination between the army and Hezbollah in the offensive.
