REPORT: Parliament convenes, discusses state budget
The Parliament held on Tuesday a session whereby committee members were elected before moving to discuss the state budget.

The session was presided by Speaker Nabih Berri.

Berri adjourned the session at 3:30 p.m. and was convened again at 6 p.m.
The morning session saw the re-election of current members of parliamentary committees.
This as MP Elie Aoun was replaced by MP Khaled Zahraman.
The MPs then discussed the 2017 state budget.

MP Ibrahim Kanaan said that the budget draft law included 76 articles divided to four chapters, adding that it lacks “comprehensiveness.”

For his part, Former Prime Minister Najib Miqati said that the government must set “serious measures” to boost investments.

Meanwhile, Future bloc MP Ahmed Fatfat commented on the death sentence issued by the Military Court against Islamist cleric Ahmed al-Assir over the Abra clashes.

“Where is the killer of Samer Hanna? where is the murderer of Hashem al-Salman?" Fatfat said.

He also noted to the "discrimination" among the Lebanese people, adding that the Military Court is issuing sentences based on sectarian motivations,” he added.

This as MP Khaled Daher said that “corruption and the waste of public money are behind the accumulation of debts."
