REPORT: Lebanon serves as refuge and transit point for Syrian refugees

A group of Syrian nationals were attempting to illegally infiltrate into Lebanon through the Syrian-Lebanese borders near al-Masnaa crossing point, when a land mind detonated, injuring a 10-year-old Syrian girl and her grandmother.

The girl and her grandmother were not the first to fall victims of the smugglers who charge$ 100 to $300 per person.  Before them many died when crossing this path, where the Lebanese army and the security forces arrest dozens on a weekly basis trying to infiltrate into the country.

The smuggling by land is not the only suffering faced by Syrian refugees, as “the boats of death” have claimed the lives of many.

Two days ago, the Lebanese army’s marine teams rescued 32 Syrian nationals off the short of the northern town of Anfeh. The refugees were attempting to reach Turkey.

Lebanon, whose politicians are still trying to find a solution for the Syrian displacement crisis, still has its maritime and land borders open.
