Sources well-informed on the issue of Ogero stressed that the company is not ready to halt operations, since such a measure would affect all the Lebanese people, noting that work will continue despite the decision of Telecommunications Minister Jamal al-Jarrah who continues to exert pressure on the company’s administration.
The minister has been demanding that the administration should look into the unnecessary recruitments, while the minister himself had imposed around 100 new employees on the institution.
The sources added that the issue aggravated when the ministry granted the sector for the GDS Company to install fiber optics, which reduces the government’s income from 100% to only 20%, noting that the appeal presented by Ogero’s employees had been returned by a chamber at the Shura Council.
The sources concluded by saying that the Telecom sector is among the most important sources of income for the government, stressing that it should not become at the center of political disputes.
