REPORT: How do the Lebanese people view the current crisis?

Ipsos Group for market research and a consulting conducted a study concerning the repercussions of the crisis caused by Hariri’s resignation on several levels in Lebanon. The study asked 662 Lebanese citizens aged above 18 years old several questions and the results came as follow:

 

33% said that the economic situation will deteriorate, while 64% expected the situation to remain unchanged and 3% said the situation will improve.

 

23% said the Lebanese Lira will be negatively affected by the current state in Lebanon and 77% were against this statement.

 

53% expected a war to outbreak from the latest events while 47% said that there will be no war.

 

Answering a question concerning the upcoming parliamentary elections, 45% expected that these elections will not be held as scheduled and 55% said that they will be held.

 

Voicing their opinions on the positions taken by President Michel Aoun, 79% of the asked citizens said that the president is working towards resolving the crisis, 13% said that he did not make any difference and 8% stated that he increased the obstacles.

 

As for the stances of Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea, 29% said that he is working to resolve the crisis, 44% said that he did not make any difference and 27% said that he is complicating the situation.

 

The positions taken by Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah were viewed by 52% of the citizens in the study as working on resolving the issue, while 20% thought that he is not making any difference and 28% said that he is complicating the issue.
