The following story went viral on social media after being posted by journalist Rasha Abou Zaki on her personal account:
“A Syrian child was sexually assaulted. The citizens beat the attacker and handed him over to the police station. They also told the child’s mother to head to the police station and press charges. The mother and child spent yesterday night at the station; today the mother was transferred to another place and the child remained at the station, because their documents were not legal.”
Social media users interacted with the story, raising question marks over the incident.
Therefore, the Directorate General of the Internal Security Forces explained the events, saying that the attacker has been arrested and referred to the concerned apparatus. It added that the mother and child have been released and granted a 15-day deadline to fix their situation, since they illegally crossed into Lebanon.
