The formation of the cabinet has been further delayed until after Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri returns from his travels.
A closed meeting was held by Hariri and caretaker Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil at the sidelines of the parliamentary session held to elect committees.
Sources told LBCI that the meeting was positive, adding that there is no conflict between the Future Movement and the Free Patriotic Movement. The sources stressed that the two men agreed on the need to resolve the obstacles that have been delaying the cabinet formation. They also agreed on holding another meeting before Hariri travels at the end of this week.
Well-informed sources from “Strong Lebanon” bloc said that the main obstacle hindering the formation process is the Druze issue, not the Christian one, as some have been promoting.
The sources stressed that Jumblatt cannot eliminate other Druze leaders and limit the representation of the sect, noting that this position rejecting pluralism in one sect’s representation is unprecedented.
