Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri thought that the March 8 forces wanted to get rid of the disassociation policy, while he sees following it serves Lebanon’s interest.
In this context, sources close to Hariri said that he insists on being replaced as PM if there was any consensus over abandoning the disassociation policy, but this consensus does not exist.
Some political forces, including Hezbollah, Amal Movement and the Free Patriotic movement, might have a different point of view, but other forces back Hariri in his stance, such as the Lebanese Forces, the Progressive Socialist Party as well as independent forces.
This has raised controversy over the matter, sparking an internal debate that has suspended the cabinet formation process and delayed it further.
