President of the Swiss Confederation Alain Berset visited on the third and last day of his official visit to Lebanon the governorate of Akkar, to which he arrived aboard a military helicopter, accompanied by the Ambassador of Switzerland to Lebanon, Monika Schmutz Kirgoz.
During the visit, which took place amid tight security measures, Berset headed to the town of Tal Maayan where he visited the camp of Syrian refugees and met with the 43 Syrian families residing there and who are originally from the provinces of Homs and Idlib.
Berset then inspected one of the tents set out as a "school" for the students, where he listened to the situation and needs of the school, the number of its students and the conditions of education there.
He also attended a seminar on environmental and health awareness organized by Red Cross teams in a number of camps to raise awareness about prevention and health protection.
The Swiss president stressed "the importance of living with dignity" emphasizing that "the Swiss State is carrying out its duties in this regard."
"We will continue to provide assistance, depending on our capabilities," he said.
