The chief executive of the Livestock Traders Syndicate, Maarouf Bekdash, held meetings with Beirut Governor Ziad Chebib and Interior and Municipalities Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq, where he requested the reopening of Karantina slaughterhouse, which has been closed for 4 years.
This request has raised a wave of discontent and anger all over social media platforms, before it has been clarified that the reopening will consist exclusively of the sales section.
In a phone call with LBCI, Bekdash stressed that this temporary solution presented by Beirut governor aims at importing meat products from slaughterhouses outside of Beirut to sell them at the Karantina slaughterhouse.
He added that this solution is temporary pending the end of works on the new slaughterhouse established in the region of Choueifat.
