The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik held a national colloquium entitled Lebanon and Syrian Displacement. Crisis Management and Return: Towards a Public National Policy.
Attending the conference, UNHCR representative in Lebanon Mireille Girard stated that the UN leaved the decision for return to the refugees themselves, noting that some of them anticipate obstacles to this return.
Girard said that the UN works on addressing these obstacles in order to eliminate them, by contacting the authorities in Syria and other concerned authorities working in this regard.
Answering a question on concerns raised over possible resettlement of the refugees, Girard pointed out that 88% of refugees wish to return to their home country, stating that the UN asks this question regularly to the refugees, and this rate is probably the same in all refugee cases.
