Study reveals obstacles and challenges faced by parliamentary elections’ female candidates

A study conducted by pioneering women and focusing on the obstacles and challenges faced by women who ran for parliamentary elections in Lebanon, showed that the financial issues and funding difficulties were the main problems faced by those women.

The study also found that 16% of female candidates said that the absence of support from women in their community was one of the challenges, while 13% stated that not being part of a political party created an obstacle that prevented them from reaching the parliament.

Other challenges were also present, since 10% of the candidates thought that the media was a source of discrimination and extortion, while 14% said that the expensive media coverage and the difficulties paired with their appearance on the media were serious issues in this regard.
