Lebanon’s political parties react to electricity plan presented by Minister Nada Boustany

Energy Minister Nada Boustany said that “it is only natural that Prime Minister Saad Hariri approved the electricity plan to be presented to the cabinet, but Hariri is not the whole cabinet.”

She noted that the ministers can only review the first 25 pages of the plan to understand its content.

The Lebanese Forces party said that they informed the energy minister that the study of such a plan requires the formation of a ministerial committee, given that it is a 290-page plan, and cannot be passed in one session. The party also stressed that it has announced its plan to guarantee power supply.

Hezbollah did not declare a position toward the electricity plan, stating that studying the plan will take plan on several levels within the party.

In turn the Progressive Socialist Party said that passing this plan in one session is impossible, stressing that it needs discussion and exchange of ideas and proposals between the parties.

Amal Movement ruled out the possibility of passing the plan in one session, pointing out that the movement’s ministers will take the necessary position based on the course of discussions during Thursday’s session.
