Amnesty calls on Lebanon to end abuse of migrant domestic workers in Kafala system

Amnesty International issued a report on Wednesday, calling on the Lebanese authorities to put an end to the Kafala sponsorship system.

“Lebanon’s new government must seize the opportunity to end the Kafala (Sponsorship) system which has trapped migrant domestic workers in a nightmarish web of abuse ranging from exploitative working conditions to forced labor and human trafficking,” the report read.

“It is outrageous that successive Lebanese governmental have turned a blind eye to the catalogue of abuses that migrant domestic workers are being subjected to in their place of employment,” according to the report.
