It is indisputable that the remarks made by General Labor Confederation head Beshara al-Asmar about late Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir were a major ethical tumble.
But arresting al-Asmar by the Lebanese judiciary was seen as point of contention from a legal standpoint.
Some stated that the judicial authorities did not refer to the law to arrest al-Asmar, but went with the public opinion’s anger.
However, legal experts said that the judiciary may estimate the nature of the crime committed by al-Asmar as slander and defamation.
