WhatAspp application to no longer be free in Lebanon
The decline in telecom revenues seems to be the main concern for the Lebanese state with the sector’s revenues dropping by about 33% from 2017 and 2018.

The drop is justified by the Ministry of Telecommunications with the increase in the use of WhatsApp application, mainly the WhatsApp Call option and similar free applications such as Skype, Viber, Facebook Call, FaceTime, which all use the technique of VoIP voice over IP.

During the Cabinet session, it was agreed to impose a fee on the use of these applications: 20 cents per day for each WhatsApp subscriber or any similar application, which is equivalent to $ 6 per subscriber per month.

If we multiply this amount by about 3 million users of these applications, this will provide around $ 216 million per year to the state’s Treasury.

This proves once again that officials are putting more burdens on Lebanese citizens, at a time when they are even unable to devise an economic strategy to save the country out of its crisis.
