Hariri holds non-binding parliamentary consultations
Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri held on Friday non-binding parliamentary consultations to form a new government.
 
Hariri met with Free Patriotic Movement head MP Gebran Bassi who called for the formation of a techno-political Cabinet with skilled ministers who are able of making fast achievements.
 
Bassil also noted that the meeting was “frank and open,” confirming that there is no personal problem with Hariri at all.
 
This as Hariri also met with a delegation of the Development and Liberation bloc whereby it called for the swift formation of a competent government that takes into account efficiency and implements reforms in the electricity sector, fights corruption and promotes the independence of the judiciary.
 
As for the Future bloc, it voiced hopes that a new government would be formed soon, adding that the country does not bear any postponement.
 
For its part, the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc stressed the importance of agreement among all political powers to "protect the new government and provide an atmosphere of trust among the Lebanese people."
 
The bloc also noted that it discussed with Hariri reforms related to the judiciary, administration, control authorities and the economy, adding that "all of which fall under the French initiative, of which we agreed to 90 percent of it."
 
"We also advised Hariri of forming a government made of 22 to 24 ministers," the bloc added.
 
Meanwhile, MP Taymour Jumblatt speaking on behalf of the Democratic Gathering bloc said that he voiced hopes to Hariri that a new government would be formed as soon as possible, urging all political powers not to hinder the formation process.
 
As for the Strong Republic bloc, MP Georges Adwan said after meeting Hariri that the bloc hopes for the formation of a new Cabinet in one week or 10 days, stressing the need that the new cabinet lineup would be formed of specialists.
 
For his part, MP Hagop Pakradounian representing the Armenian bloc voiced optimism about the formation process, adding however that the new government should meet the people's needs.
