New judge of Beirut blast probe heads to office at Beirut Justice Palace

Judge Tareq Bitar headed on Saturday to his office at the Justice Palace of Beirut to review the file of th Beirut blast before starting investigations.

This as Bitar will continue to follow up on the files that he had as head of the Beirut Criminal Court.

Yesterday, Justice Minister Marie Clause Najem appointed judge Tareq Bitar to lead the Investigation into the Beirut port blast.

On Thursday the Lebanese court of cassation dismissed judge Fadi Sawan from the investigation after a request by two former ministers he had charged with negligence.

The dismissal sparked anger amongst the families of the victims of the blast who saw it as a setback to their campaign to hold those in power to account over negligence.
