Army chief Aoun: It is forbidden for anyone to interfere in army affairs
Lebanese Armed Forces Commander Major General Joseph Aoun said on Monday that “it is no longer possible to remain silent about the continuous campaigns made by several sides that aim at distorting the image of the army.”

He also stressed that the army “continues to perform its tasks and supports the freedom of peaceful expression and not the encroaching on public and private properties, and will not allow any harm to stability and civil peace.”

"It is forbidden for anyone to interfere in the affairs of the army, neither with formations nor promotions," he added.

Aoun denied any desertions being made among the army’s ranks due to the economic situation, adding that the army had adopted a policy of austerity.

"Without aid, the situation would have been much worse," he stressed.

As for the smuggling at the border, Aoun voiced hope “that any official would request a tour at the border to see what the army is doing there,” adding that “everyone is invited to inspect the border."
