Egyptian Foreign Minister Choukri tours Lebanese leaders
President Michel Aoun met on Wednesday with Egyptian Foreign Affairs Minister Sameh Choukri at the Baabda Presidential Palace.

Following the meeting, Choukri voiced regrets that "a political impasse still exists in Lebanon 8 months after the Beirut port explosion."

“Lebanese politicians are still struggling to form a government,” he added.

He concluded by stressing that Egypt "will continue to deploy all efforts to communicate with all parties in order to exit the current crisis."

Choukri arrived in Beirut this morning on an official visit during which he will meet with senior Lebanese officials and party leaders.

Lebanon is facing a months-long Cabinet crisis and needs to accelerate the formation of a new government lists to enact reforms deemed vital to averting the country’s total economic collapse.

The Egyptian official then met with Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain el-Tineh, whereby he asserted that Egypt care about Lebanon, considering that Lebanon’s stability is vital to the region’s stability.

He also noted that he conveyed a message of solidarity from Egypt, stressing that his country “is ready to do what it can to help.”

Choukri and the accompanying delegation then met with Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri in Bayt al-Wasat.

The meeting was attended by former minister Ghattas Khoury and advisor Bassem al-Chab.

Talks reportedly tackled the latest developments and the general situation in Lebanon and in the entire region, as well as the bilateral relations.
