Jordanians headed to the polls on Tuesday to vote in the country's municipal and governorate council elections, the first to be held since a new decentralization law was passed in the country.
Under the new law, elections were handled by the Independent Election Commission. The previous elections, held in 2013, were carried out by the Municipalities Ministry.
Jordanians will vote for mayors, members of municipal councils and newly established governorate councils.
More than 6,000 candidates are competing for membership of the various councils.
