REPORT: President Aoun arrives to Baghdad, Holds talks with Iraqi president

President Michel Aoun held talks on Tuesday with Iraqi President Fouad Masoum during his official two-day visit to Baghdad.

 

Aoun said that Iraq always stood beside Lebanon amid all crises that the country went through.

 

Aoun’s comments were made during a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart whereby he noted that they have mutual point of views about the necessity of fighting terrorism.

 

“We must deploy common Arab and International efforts to fight terrorism effectively,” Aoun added.

 

President Aoun also stressed that the country firmly supports the unity of Iraq and opposes all projects that threaten its unity.

 

For his part, President Masoum said that Iraq and Lebanon have historical relationships that date back thousands of years.

 

“We find that the Lebanese sample of coexistence is the best balance of components,” he added.

 

President Michel Aoun arrived earlier on Tuesday to the Iraqi capital Baghdad on a two-day official visit.

 

He is accompanied by Minister of Industry Hussein al-Hajj Hassan, Minister of Interior Nouhad Machnouq, State Minister for Combating Corruption Affairs Nicolas Tueni, Minister of Tourism Avedis Guidanian, MP Hagop Pakradonian along an administrative delegation.

 

The president is set to visit on Wednesday the Armenian capital Yerevan.
