UN Security Council lauds Rome II conference, reiterates support to Lebanon
Members of the United Nations Security Council praised the Rome II conference in support of the Lebanese Army and security apparatuses and reiterated commitment to Lebanon’s stability, serenity and independence.
The members also hailed the efforts deployed by the Lebanese authorities to hold the parliamentary elections according to International standards.
The members of the Security Council commended the role of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and of all state security institutions in protecting the country, its borders and its population and recalling that the LAF are the only legitimate armed forces of Lebanon, as enshrined in the Lebanese constitution and Taif Agreement.

They saluted the role of the LAF in successfully containing and ultimately defeating the territorial ambitions of Daesh, Al Nusra and other UN designated terrorist groups in Lebanon. They commended the role of Lebanon's Internal Security Forces (ISF) amongst the legitimate security institutions of the Lebanese state.

They also stressed that there is no weapons or authority in Lebanon other than that of the Lebanese state, no foreign forces in Lebanon without the consent of its government, and no sale or supply of arms related materiel to Lebanon except as authorized by its government.
