French President, Emmanuel Macron, gathered the bosses of employees' and workers' unions as well as ministers and mayors' representatives at the Elysee presidential palace on Monday.
The meeting took place before a much-anticipated televised address to the nation where the president was expected to offer his response to the “gilets jaunes” crisis after a fourth weekend of protests across the country.
The president has drawn criticism for his silence in public over the violence in Paris - opponents accuse him of turning the Elysee Palace into a bunker.
