Libya calls for cutting off ties with Lebanon-Sputnik
Sputnik news agency reported on Monday that the Libyan State Council called for cutting off ties with Lebanon on the background of "insulting the flag" of Libya, noting that such acts do not represent the Lebanese people.

This as the Libyan Supreme Council condemned, according to the Libyan Alwasat daily, the AMAL movement's insult to the Libyan flag at the headquarters of the planned Arab socio-economic summit in Beirut, urging the Foreign Ministry to freeze diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Supreme Council also noted that such acts “do not represent the brotherly Lebanese people.”

The Council also called on the Arab league to take a “clear stance” regarding the incident and “to exclude Lebanon from any Arab event until the Lebanese authorities assume their responsibility and abide by diplomatic norms.”

Yesterday, a number of the AMAL Movement's supporters removed the flag of Libya from the Seaside Arena (formerly BIEL), replacing it with the Amal Movement flag, ahead of the Economic Summit scheduled to be held on the 20th of January in Beirut.

The movement accuses the former regime of slain Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi of abducting its founder Imam Moussa al-Sadr and his two companions during a visit to Libya in 1978.
