President Michel Aoun said that “it is in Europe’s interest to resolve the issue of the refugees,” noting that the difficult economic situation in Lebanon will force them to look for alternatives and the European states will be their destination.
Following his meeting with the Chairman of Russia’s State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin in Moscow, Aoun said that the priority is to address the situation in the Middle East, mainly in Syria, noting that Trump’s decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over Golan Heights is a dark day witnessed by the world and an arbitrary action that contradicts international legitimacy that protects borders between the states.
Aoun added that this visit represents a new phase in the Lebanese-Russian ties, developing cooperation and boosting friendship.
For his turn, Chairman of Russia’s State Duma said he is looking forward to cooperate with Lebanese parliamentarian, extending to them an invitation through Aoun to participate in the international conference on development that will be held in Moscow in September.
