Iran's health system strong, ready for possible escalation in coronavirus cases- Rouhani
Iran's health infrastructure is strong and ready to cope with a possible escalation in coronavirus cases, President Hassan Rouhani said Saturday (March 28) on state TV.

Iran is among the few countries worldwide severely affected by the pandemic.

The country's death toll from the coronavirus outbreak rose to 2,517 on Saturday, with 139 fatalities in the past 24 hours, according to Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour. The total number of cases diagnosed so far rose by 3,076 to 35,408, including 3,206 in a critical condition.

Officials have complained that many Iranians ignored appeals to stay at home and cancel travel plans for the Persian New Year holidays that began on March 20.
