New York City playgrounds padlocked on governor's orders over coronavirus
Playgrounds across New York City were padlocked overnight, a move ordered by the state's governor to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Wednesday (April 1) that he would close down the playgrounds in the city in an effort to bolster social distancing steps and limit the number of coronavirus-related deaths, which are approaching 2,000 in the state.

Cuomo told a daily briefing on Wednesday that the number of coronavirus cases in his state had increased to 83,712, up from 75,795 from Tuesday (March 31), with deaths rising to 1,941, up from 1,550.
