Lebanese Doctor Makes New Discoveries In Alzheimer’s Disease
Lebanese researcher and academic at the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich (LMU, Germany) Dr. Elias Akoury announced new scientific discoveries related to the Alzheimer disease.

Akoury, who led an international team of scientists comprising researchers at Utrecht University (The Netherlands), the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry (Göttingen, Germany), and the University of South Florida (USA), said that they determined the structure of The Tau protein at atomic resolution and highlighted the inhibition of protein aggregation.

The Alzheimer's disease occurs when millions of neurons in the brain are dead. In affected brain tissues, clumps of the Tau protein have a main contribution to malfunction of neurons and eventually to their death.

They made their discoveries by applying Physical Chemistry and high-resolving techniques of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)
