NASA designs special ventilator targeted towards COVID-19 patients-[PHOTOS]
NASA engineers have offered new technologies to fight the coronavirus pandemic, including a ventilator specially targeted towards COVID-19 patients, NASA officials told President Trump on Friday (April 24).

Engineers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California have designed a new high-pressure devices called VITAL (Ventilator Intervention Technology Accessible Locally), that is awaiting approval from the Food and Drug Administrations. The device is designed to treat patients with milder symptoms of COVID-19, reserving traditional ICU ventilators for more severe cases, according to NASA.

"COVID-19 patients --- their lungs are not compliant, so you need high pressure and this is a high pressure ventilator," JPL's Dave Gallagher told Trump at a White House meeting. Gallagher said VITAL ventilators used special parts and therefore would not interrupt the production chain for traditional ventilators.

Other devices include AMBUstat that will utilize technology that had been used in sterilizing spacecrafts to decontaminate large surfaces inside of schools, prisons and businesses.
