Saudi Arabia to host women's international friendly tournament

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) announced that it will host the 2023 women's international friendly tournament from January 11 until January 19, 2023, which will be held in Prince Saud bin Jalawi Stadium in Al Khobar.

The federation stated on its official website that the participating teams are: Pakistan, Comoros, Mauritius, and the host, Saudi Arabia.

Hosting the tournament comes within the objectives of the Women's Football Department of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation to develop the first team, which was launched last year and has recently played many camps and friendly matches.

For her part, the member of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation and the general supervisor of the women's football administration, Lamia Bint Ibrahim Bin Bahian, said that women's football in the Kingdom had witnessed significant change recently, through the development of local competitions and regional training centers for girls, which contributes to the discovery of new talents that will be essential to form a strong team in the next few years.

She pointed out that the SAFF harnesses all capabilities to develop women's football, especially since it is a central pillar for the strategic transformation of Saudi Arabian football.

Bin Bahian added that the international friendly tournament aims to increase contact with the national team players before entering future official contests.

It is noteworthy that the Saudi women's team triumphed in the first two international matches against the Seychelles and Maldives before drawing and losing to Bhutan.
