Angry citizens blocked on Saturday morning Sidon’s
coastal road protest of the assassination of Brigadier General Wissam
al-Hasan’s assassination in a car bomb blast in an Ashrafieh residential street
on Friday.
This as, Sidon’s northern entrance was blocked
with burning tires and residents gathered in the city’s Nejhmeh Square. Corniche El Mazraa and Madina Al Riyadiya main
road was also blocked with burning tires.
In Bekaa, security forces opened Chtoura-Beirut
main road after it was converted through Tarshish, while Saadneyel road
remained closed with earth mounds.
Later in the day, Bar
Elias International road was blocked with cars, where two Lebanese people were wounded when the Lebanese army opened fire at a group of protesters, witnesses said.
Elsewhere, young men
attempted to block the seaside road in Jadra - Wadi al-Zineh with burning tires
and metal barriers, but the Lebanese Army interfered and reopened
it, allowing cars to pass normally.
Meanwhile, gunshots were heard in Naher Abou
Ali roundabout area in Tripoli.
Clashes erupted as well overnight in Tripoli in
Abou Samra area, causing the death of Sheikh Abdel Razzak Al Asmar. The
Lebanese Army had to intervene to restore calm.
While Tripoli’s roads are open, the road
connecting Tripoli to Akkar has been blocked in Beddawi.
In Akkar, roads were blocked in several towns
with barriers and earth mounds to denounce the assassination of Brig. Gen.
Wissam al-Hassan. Among the Akkar towns where roads were blocked: Al-Bireh,
al-Mounjez, Kousha, al-Hisseh, al-Aridah, Halba and Abdeh. Stores and public
institutions are also closed in the region.
In this regard, the governor of the North
Nassif Kaloush chaired a sub-security meeting held in Tripoli’s Serail, where
the attendees discussed security measures adopted to protect civil peace and
stability. They also discussed the measures taken in order to prevent anyone
from taking advantage of this incident to create sedition among the Lebanese
people.
