Sit-ins and protest were held in Riad al-Solh square coinciding with cabinet session held to discuss the fate of the pay scale.
The head of the General Labor Confederation George al-Asmar stressed there will be no dialogue with anyone before the payment of the salaries for the military personnel and the public sector employees, rejecting any tax policy that affects low-income people.
He also said that they will be heading to escalation in case their demands fail to be met.
For his part, the protesters’ spokesman said that the pay scale is a right, calling on Prime Minister Saad Hariri to preserve the country and grant them their right.
“We all know from where the resources can be ensured,” he stated addressing the officials and urging them to save the academic year and the public administration.
