[PHOTOS] The Top Ten Dogs For Children

There seems to be a lot of ignorance in terms of pet keeping across Lebanon and while many dog owners do their research prior to making a dog part of their family, many others consider dogs an accessory, “fluffy” or “mortifying” depending on the image they would like to portray.

But in light of the deadly dog attack that occurred in Zahle, we compiled a list of the top ten dogs best suited for children and families.

Bulldog

Why? Because they’re sturdy, and can take anything kids throw at them. Their low energy also adds to their friendliness and patience.

End result: A dog that will put up with a lot.

Beagle

Why? It is said to be an ideal dog for families with children. Energetic, friendly, sturdy and mostly child-proof.

End result: They’re great at looking over children and can help you herd the young ones at bed time.

Bull Terrier

Why? They are intelligent, energetic and friendly dogs that can take a lot of roughhousing while remaining calm.

End Result: Great for large families, they don’t complain too much when manhandled by children, and can actually help teach kids how to properly relate to dogs.

Collie

Why? One word Lassie.

End Result: Its tendency to herd will come in handy when it comes to your children. Beyond that, collies love nothing more than to make their humans happy

Newfoundland

Why? Because of their natural love of children, the Newfoundland has been dubbed “Nature’s Nannies.”

End Result: These breeds suit a family with large open spaces, they will also tend to wind up wherever the family is. They want nothing more than to keep watch on their pack members.

Vizsla

Why? The Vizsla is gentle, loyal, quiet and affectionate. It does require a lot of exercise — not a problem if you have energetic children.

End result: It prefers to spend a lot of time indoors with its family, and is very eager to learn and show off. If you want to teach your children by teaching them to train dogs, then this breed is a good choice.

Irish Setter

Why? Because they’re playful and energetic.
End result: They are smart and gentle, and are good for children with allergies because they do not shed as much as other breeds.

Poodle
Why? Standard poodles are smart and gentle, and good for children with allergies, since they do not shed as much as other breeds. Please note, only the standard poodle is a good family dog. Miniature poodles tend to be very high strung and not suitable for families with children.

End result: They are good-natured, and make excellent playmates for children.

Labrador Retriever

Why? It's one of the most popular breeds all around and the only breed accepted for training as arson dogs, and one of the more popular breeds for service dogs. For a family, there’s hardly a better choice.

End result: Labradors love to please their humans, being playful, protective, loving, and reliable.

Golden Retriever

Why? Because they’re patient, energetic, and useful around children.
End result: They are considered as service dogs and described as avid swimmers.

Mutts

Why? Because they adapt to the energy level of the family.
End result: All family members, whether adults or children, can be pack leaders. You’ll have with them an enjoyable experience.

Head down to your nearest shelter and adopt! Because mutts are great dogs!
