Kataeb leader Gemayel to LBCI: MPs should go to parliament and elect new president
Kataeb party leader Amine Gemayel said on Tuesday during an interview with LBCI that MPs should go to the parliament and elect a new president for the country.

He also noted that Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea will not obstruct the vote and he is "ready to withdraw for the sake of any candidate with luck to take office."

Gemayel added that no nominee guaranteed until now the majority of the votes unless the voting equations change.

He stressed that he rejects the amendment of the constitution, adding that he refuses to go to the parliament to elect President Michel Sleiman to avoid being “a false witness.”

Parliament failed to elect a new president due to disputes between the March 8 and 14 camps.

Most of the March 8 alliance's MPs boycotted four rounds of elections over their call for an agreement on a consensual president and their rejection of the candidacy of their Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea.

A fifth round of polls is scheduled to be held next Thursday, two days before the expiry of Sleiman's six-year tenure.
