Lebanon-Israel ceasefire agreed in US-led negotiations, joint statement reveals terms

The United States has announced that Lebanon and Israel have agreed to implement a ceasefire following the fourth high-level trilateral meeting held in Washington on June 2–3, 2026, according to a joint statement.

According to the statement, the ceasefire is contingent on a complete halt of Hezbollah fire and the withdrawal of all Hezbollah members from the South Litani Sector.

The agreement also includes a U.S.-backed plan to establish pilot zones in which the Lebanese army would take exclusive control of territory, excluding all non-state actors.

The statement said these steps are intended to pave the way toward a broader security and peace framework, with both sides reaffirming that the future of their relationship must be determined by the two sovereign governments without external interference.

Israel and Lebanon both stated they have no hostile intent toward each other and are committed to continuing direct negotiations to address outstanding issues and build confidence toward a comprehensive agreement.

The talks also covered a broader security framework, building on previous discussions at the Pentagon on May 29, with a focus on sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the dismantling of non-state armed groups.

The statement included condemnation of Iran’s regional activities, with all parties accusing Tehran of supporting proxy groups and destabilizing the Middle East.

The United States reaffirmed its support for Lebanon and Israel to exercise full sovereignty and said any ceasefire agreement must be reached directly between the two governments under U.S. mediation. It also pledged continued support for the Lebanese army to strengthen its capacity nationwide.

Israel reiterated that lasting security requires the disarmament of Hezbollah and the dismantling of its infrastructure across Lebanon.

Lebanon, for its part, emphasized respect for internationally recognized borders and the full implementation of the cessation of hostilities, while committing to strengthening the Lebanese army with U.S. assistance.

The two sides are scheduled to reconvene their political and security talks during the week of June 22, with the aim of advancing toward a comprehensive agreement. The United States will continue to facilitate communication between the two parties in the interim.
