Iran Guards radioed ships to say Hormuz Strait is closed: EU naval mission

Iran's Revolutionary Guards sent radio messages on Saturday to vessels warning them they could not enter the Strait of Hormuz, the EU's Red Sea naval mission, Operation Aspides, told AFP in a statement.

Vessels have been receiving high-frequency radio transmissions from Iran's Revolutionary Guards saying "no ship is allowed to pass the Strait of Hormuz," Lieutenant Colonel Socrates Ravanos said referring to the vital global shipping chokepoint.

"Iran had not formally confirmed any such order," he added.
