MP Marouni to LBCI: No legislation amid presidential vacuum
Member of the Kataeb bloc MP Elie Marouni called Friday on the head of Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun to attend the parliamentary session to elect a new president, urging him to respect constitutional deadlines.

“A president must be elected in a half plus one vote, so that the parliament will be able to pass a new electoral law,” he said.

In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, Marouni noted that each initiative presented by MP Aoun concerns his own interests, stressing that “he constitutes the main problem.”

Accordingly, the MP pointed out that the parliament cannot legislate amid a presidential vacuum, adding that pressure must be exerted in a bid to end the stalemate.

“What if the parliamentary elections were held prior to the presidential elections?” he asked, stating that amid the current alliances and alignments, the result will be the same, the cabinet will resign and turn into a caretaker government, which will not be responsible for calling for parliamentary consultations.

“And therefore, the country will end up without a cabinet, while the parliament’s work will be obstructed and the same scenario will be repeated, no legislation under a caretaker government,” he said.
