REPORT: 750 cases of asphyxiation due to unprecedented sandstorm – Ministry
An unprecedented suffocating sandstorm has been engulfing Lebanon since Monday afternoon and is expected to last until Thursday evening.

The Ministry of Health stated that the sand storm has so far led to 750 cases of asphyxiation or shortness of breath in the northern and eastern parts of the country, adding that 2 citizens suffocated to death.

In this regard, the ministry urged citizens who have asthma, allergies, chronic pulmonary or heart disease as well as the elderly, children and pregnant women to “stay home and avoid exposure to dust," asking them to wear masks if they were obliged to leave their houses.

Meanwhile, Civil Aviation sources confirmed to LBCI that the visibility is clear, adding that the storm has not yet affected or delayed the flights.

It is worth noting that the storm disrupted daily life in various regions, closing down most businesses and restaurants in the northern city of Tripoli, in the Akkar province, and in the Baalbek-Hermel district.
