Khoury to LBCI: The country needs clear economic plan

Caretaker Minister of Economy Raed Khoury said on Sunday that several accumulations led to the deteriorating economic situation in the country, such as the increase of International interests, the increase of interests in developing countries and the Syrian conflict that led to the closure of Lebanese-Syrian borders.

Khoury’s comments were made during an interview with LBCI Nharkom Said whereby he noted that the country needs a clear plan to preserve the Lebanese economy.

The minister noted that the decision taken by the Cabinet to draw an economic plan for the country in cooperation with McKinsey Company is “the first step towards identifying the productive sectors in the country.”

“This plan is almost done,” he added.

As for the decision of banning the import of some Turkish goods such as biscuits and cleaning materials, Khoury added that such a decision was taken to protect the national production after that some Lebanese factors closed their doors.

“This decision is not against the Turkish state, but to protect the Lebanese economy,” he stressed.
