Speaker of the Kuwait National Assembly from Baabda: No travel ban to Lebanon

President Michel Aoun stressed Friday that the Lebanese-Kuwaiti ties are a natural translation of the cooperation relation linking Lebanon to Kuwait.

During his meeting with speaker of the Kuwait National Assembly Marzouq Al Ghanim at Baabda presidential palace, Aoun added that the support constantly voiced by Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah for Lebanon and the Lebanese people reflects Kuwait’s keenness on backing Lebanon in all regional and international conferences and working to preserve the country’s stability and security.

Aoun also tackled the efforts deployed to boost Lebanon’s economy after the achievements realized on the local scene and the follow-up on the international scene, represented by the three conferences held to support Lebanon in Rome, Paris and Brussels, during which Kuwait played an effective role.

During the meeting, the two parties also tackled the issue of the Syrian refugees and Lebanon’s firm stance calling for a safe and gradual return to safe Syrian areas after the Syrian officials provide the required guarantees.

The president pointed out that they have repeatedly called on the International Community to facilitate the return of the Syrians to their country, stating that these calls fell on deaf ears. “This has forced the Lebanese to raise question marks over the real reasons behind this negligence to Lebanon’s rightful and legitimate demands,” he added.

Concerning the travel ban imposed on the gulf citizens to Lebanon, al-Ghanim said that “the daily flights between Kuwait and Lebanon have exceeded 14 to 15 flights, whether with or without a ban.”

“There is not ban on Kuwaiti people from traveling to Lebanon, it has been lifted a long time ago, Kuwaitis come all the time to Lebanon,” he explained, adding that there never had been a ban but security warnings issued by the governments when an incident takes place.
