Aoun: Lebanon can no longer bear the consequences of the Syrian displacement

President Michel Aoun welcomed Wednesday at Baabda Presidential Palace UN Secretary-General special envoy to Syria, Mr. Geir Pedersen, who visited him with an accompanying delegation.

Aoun informed Pedersen that Lebanon is longer capable of bearing the burden of the repercussions of the Syrian displacement, stressing the need to work on ensuring the safe return of the refugees to safe regions in Syria.

“Many countries took part in the war on Syria and they want us to bear the results. If these countries allocated only 10% of this war’s cost to resolving the refugee crisis, the humanitarian crisis would have been resolved,” he said.

In turn, Pedersen stressed the United Nations constant support for Lebanon in order to be able to face the challenges.
