President Michel Aoun said Saturday that the attack that occurred last week against Lebanon’s sovereignty and the united stance taken by the Lebanese people by rejecting and denouncing it while emphasizing their legitimate right to defend their nation are all proof that the Lebanese are attached to their principles that preserve their entity and rights.
In a speech he delivered on the eve of the anniversary of the declaration of the State of Greater Lebanon, Aoun stressed that Lebanon is not a desolate land for anyone, emphasizing that “we would not have arrived to this occasion if we failed to prove that we are capable of preserving our land and independence.”
Addressing the Lebanese people, the president called on everyone to teach the future generations about Lebanon’s history, noting that remembering history is necessary, “because those who forget their history repeat the same mistakes and risk their future.”
President Aoun noted that this is the perfect occasion to reiterate his belief in the need to transition from the standing sectarian state into a modern civil state, where the main belonging is to the nation, rather than to the sectarian leaders.
